End your year with a little magic
How to focus on your dreams in the last 12 nights and set the stage for your year ahead
Have you ever heard about the Rough Nights, or the lovelier term, the Holy Nights? It is one of the most mystical periods of the year. These nights the veil between heaven and earth is, according to ancient indigenous people, paper-thin. It is the perfect moment to connect with the invisible world and polish your spiritual cord for the new year.
Last year was the first time that I truly worked with the magic of this period. Partly because I was invited to join a group of women who worked with it as well, and partly because I was so intrigued by the idea of it, but never really worked with it.
This year I am making it my own, but when I feel inspired I might share my insights on this platform ;-)
What is the magic of these nights?
Because the veils between heaven and earth are paperthin, you can have very intense dreams. And these dreams are connected to the year ahead. When you write down your dreams every morning when you wake up, you get magical insights of the year ahead.
Every evening is connected to one month, so at the end of the 12 nights you have an overview of what lays ahead in the new year for you.
Last year I had a profound and very powerful ritual that I would love to share with you. What you need is some time and space for yourself during these days. Furthermore pen and paper comes in handy ;-)
My Ritual
Even though it says it is 12 nights, I make it 13… (that is what I learned from Winny Bos, who is hosting a group and who shares her wisdom on the nights in this podcast (both are in Dutch only). You can start somewhere between the 20th and the 25th of December. All kinds of traditions have a link with this period, but they all seem to start on a different day…
This year I will start with my first night on the 21st, the day of the solstice and the first day of my winter break.
On the first night I will tune in on the theme I will be working with. The idea behind the theme is that you have a focus point for your week à nd you have something to prepare before you go to bed every night.
A journey with the Greek Goddesses
Last year my theme was: Greek Godesses… On the first night I figured out the 12 Goddesses I wanted to work with and made little cards with their names on it. From the second night on I picked a card and looked up some information on these goddesses, which was exciting in itself. I wrote down some things that connected to them and sometimes did a little meditation.
Then I went to bed and put the little card under my pillow, went to sleep and let my dreams do it’s thing… The next morning I would wake up and write down all I could remember. Sometimes I contemplated on it a bit in the next hours, but mostly I just let it go.
Until the last day of the ritual…
That day I drafted a wheel for the next year with all the inspiration for each month (I will share this in another post in which I will reflect on the past year). Because my experience last year was so profound, I am absolutely going to do it again.
Any questions?
This is a practise you can easily do on your own. When you have any questions, please let me know!
