Change is difficult…
Or not?
When you are ready to go, change is easy. But until the moment you are ready, change seems like a steep hill to climb.
A week ago I was paralyzed with the idea that things would never ever change. I found myself stuck in a repeated pattern and didn’t know how to change it. It happens to me once a while and luckily after years of practice I know that change will occur after being stuck. But the feeling of being stuck is frustrating and gives room for a lot of (self) doubt.
What happened?
My life has changed so much in the last year that I hardly recognised myself a couple of weeks ago. I felt free, loved, beautiful and capable of climbing every mountain. If necessary ;-).
I felt like super woman…
And then suddenly, it changed. Fear became another episode in my life and I wondered, how am I going to get back to this amazing feeling where everything was shiny and pink and without any issues… I felt the impossible challenge of changing something. As if I was looking at a mountain that was too high to climb.
Am I capable of changing my life?
It took me a couple of days to realise that I have always been able to change my life. Last year I had been able to change my business, my income, my country, everything. Things are so different than they used to be, so where did I get the idea that what I wanted was impossible to achieve?
In meditation I found the answer that change doesn’t happen overnight à nd it comes with challenges. Things happen to you that you might not like in the process of change. It’s like the universe is testing you if you are really ready to change or that you want to stay in the same situation the rest of your life.
It all starts with changing your mindset
When you change the way you think, your life will change. Where you once saw black, you will start to see grey and later things will get white. I was always a bit irritated by all these people saying that changing your thoughts could change the way you feel, but I must say, they were right.
So when you start to feel you want to change something, the first thing is to tell yourself that you will be able to do it. You can change. In whatever situation you find yourself at the moment.
4 steps to change
In my view there are four important steps to change.
Ask yourself: what do I really want? Take some quiet time to figure out for yourself where you want to go. What is the change you want to bring into your life? In meditation you can get answers about where you want to go. A guided meditation, a writing excercise or journaling can bring you closer to what you really want. So you can step forward and make a plan to get there.
Take a small step every day. Once you have decided on what you want to change, you have to bring it down to small steps, preferably small steps you can take every day. When you know you want to quit your job and be a writer, start writing 500 words every day before you head to work. And maybe even another 500 when you come back home. See what happens when you start there. Maybe you’ll realise writing isn’t your thing, or you get hooked and find a publisher who wants to publish your stories. You never know…
Accept where you are now. Accepting that you might not be living the life you want to live, but it is your life. And you are the only one who can change it. So enjoy everything that is happening. Be grateful for what you have. Share joy and love with the people around you and make room to see where you came from.
Trust that everything that happens is meant to happen at this precise moment. Everything happens for a reason. So whatever comes to you while you are changing your life, see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Or to simply enjoy. Maybe it takes you on a different path and maybe that was exactly why it happened to you. Like John Lennon once said: Life is what happens to you, while you are busy making other plans. And that is exactly what happens. The only thing that stops you from changing your life is staying stuck in your old thoughts and beliefs.
I wish you joy and pleasure on this beautiful life changing journey. When you want help with the first step, I am happy to assist you. It is my talent to help you gain clarity on what you really want. In a 90 minute session you will tell me your story, your desires and I will give clear feedback on what your next step should be. This might be confronting and out of your comfort zone, but it might be just what you need to take the first step in the direction of your desired life.
