I hope you had a great and relaxing weekend. Mine was full of outside activities, reading and hugging cats. Which is something completely new to me (the cat thing) and I am surprised by my own love I feel for these animals that are surrounding me at the moment. As I was reading a funny book this weekend with a great title, I mean, who would come up with a title like ‘Vacuuming in the nude', but Peggy Rowe did (or maybe her publishing team did). Choosing a title for a book isn’t easy and you can make or break your book with a title. It has something to do with the inspiration you will find. And sometimes you need help finding a title.
One of my books had the working title ‘this book is going to change your life’, but then a friend of mine suggested to change it into ‘happiness in 8 cups of tea’ and I stuck with it, because it is a great title I realised after sharing it with my peer group.
Inspiration is an important part in your as a creative or intuitive entrepreneur. You need inspiration to do your work. Like Simon Sinek says, inspiration is an inside motivation, a spark that moves you forward.
But the topic stayed on my mind this weekend. Because this season I am feeling inspired and uninspired at the same time. Moments of inspiration come to me during walks or while I’m swimming, but once I get back to my desk it slowly fades away… I don’t know if you can relate to this. And even if it has something to do with the season we’re in. But it is here and I have to spark my inner fire a lot to keep doing my work.
Inspiration can come to you in many ways. Like I wrote in the previous blog, sometimes you just need to sit and watch what is going on around you instead of staring at a blank page on your computer hoping the words or ideas will start to flow. Sometimes meditation is the place, but in my opinion moving and going outside is way more helpful. When the words aren’t there, they have to come from a different place.
I am very curious: How and where do you find inspiration? Where do you go when you feel in need of inspiration? How do you light your inner fire when it feels dimmed?
I often find inspiration in the kitchen. Cooking has always been my happy place. So when I feel down or frustrated I just walk into the kitchen and start cooking. I don’t work with recipes. I never know what will end up on my plate when I start a dish. First thing is to check out the ingredients. It mainly starts with the vegetables I have and then move forward from there. People who came to me for dinner always wanted recipes, but the truth is (even though I wrote a cookbook once) I never make the same dish twice. It is always a little bit different. And I love that. This might have something to do with who I truly am, because I love to experiment and try new things. I am not very good at doing the same thing twice.
During the cooking process I get inspired to write a new article or create something new for my business. Afterwards I always return to my desk happier and more inspired. If it is not in the kitchen I find inspiration during my walks in nature. There is so much power in nature. Look at a tree, a bird, a cat, the sea or whatever is near to you. There is so much happening all the time that you can’t go wrong. I am always inspired when I come back after a walk or a swim.
